The Contemporary World is basically a course that addresses the need especially of students to comprehend this globalization phenomenon. As a course it introduces the multi-dimensional and multifaceted phenomenon of globalization. Using a multidisciplinary approach through the lens of various areas of the social sciences, it analyses and examines the economic, political, cultural, social, technological, and ecological dimensions of globalization. The growth of world trade, the interdependence of different economies of individual nations and the emergence of an interconnected global society through the easing of border controls and global travel as well as the widespread use of the worldwide web via the internet that made information available to many societies were the result of globalization.
