This book aims to educate future criminologists on the development of criminology, the basics of crimes, the causes of criminal behavior, the different perspectives and components of criminology in the Philippine setting, and the fulfilling journey of being a Criminologist.
Furthermore, the Criminology Profession Law of 2018 (Republic Act No. 11131) defines a criminologist as someone who has passed the Criminology Licensure Examination administered by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Board of Criminology. However, fully understanding, committing to, and being passionate about the profession goes beyond passing an examination. It requires a deep grasp of the fundamentals of Criminology and a holistic understanding of the entire profession. As the saying goes, “Many were called, but few were chosen.” This quote serves as a reminder that while many can study criminology, only a few can become registered criminologists. Therefore, this manuscript aims to engage readers, students, and future criminologists to develop passion for the profession.
The authors earnestly request readers, future criminologists, and criminologists, especially those in academia, to approach this manuscript with enthusiasm and curiosity. Through exploring the advancing profession of Criminology, we can contribute to creating a future crime-free society.
